“Maritime Adventure Camps” The Mariners Museum, Newport News

The Mariners Museum is proud to present a week long experience to educate and enlighten children of all ages on exactly how the sea influences daily life. Join in as they explore the rich history and science of the maritime world. Kids will get to listen to music from around the globe, make crafts from distant lands and play games enjoyed by children in other countries. Each day is filled with a new and exciting agenda. Everything from bioluminescence in sea creatures, life aboard a pirate ship, treasure hunts, mermaids, and the Titanic.

Camp is broken up into two age groups.

Mini Mariners: Rising K through 2nd grade, Aug 1-5. Cost is $100 for members and $125 for non-members, 9am-12pm.
Maritime Explorers: Rising 3rd through rising 6th, Aug 8-12. Cost is $175 for members and $200 for non-members, 9am-4pm.

“Fridays by the Fountain” City Center

Not only do they still have the most rare of Pokémon characters in the city, but they also host free concerts by the fountain! This Friday, August 5th from 6-9pm, Wonderland will perform in the field behind the fountain.

There will be food available for purchase, activities for children, lawn games and adult beverages. Wonderland is a four piece high-energy band from Virginia Beach. Enjoy all genres with this well-established locally known group. You can expect everything from rock, to dance, alternative to classics as well as country music.

Parking and entry for this event is free to the public. You may bring your own chairs or blankets for seating.

City Center Farmer’s Market Thursday

Are you searching for fresh locally grown food, dairy items and plants?

Look no further. Thursday, August 11 from 10am-2pm you can shop for garden fresh vegetables, fruits and a wide selection of plants and herbs. You will also find dairy products such as cheese, goat cheese, milk and eggs. Farm to table meats include free range chicken, pork bison and seafood. Locally made selection of fresh breads, baked goods, bath products and dog treats are also available for purchase.

This weekly market extends every Thursday until September 29.
