“Paws for the Cause” Fundraiser

Bring the entire family out for a wonderful cause. Paws For a Cause Fundraiser and festival is taking place on Saturday, September 17th. The event will take place at Williams Fields in The Mariners Museum Park. All proceeds go to benefit the Peninsula SPCA, an adoption-guarantee shelter!

This year’s event will feature over 50 vendors, animal rescues with adoptable pets, and a newly expanded children’s area. The festival is from 12-5pm. There will be food and drinks available for purchase.

“Ben Folds” at Ferguson Center

“Restaurant Week” at Fin

YES. It’s our favorite time of year!  Restaurant week at Fin is September 6th-11th and will include an amazingly beautiful menu.  Specific hours for Restaurant Week are 4.30pm-10pm.  Cost is $35.  You can expect items such as fire cracker shrimp, tuna tartar, crabcakes, yellowfin tuna, filet, and decadent desserts.  Fin will not disappoint.  Come out and enjoy the astounding food, service and atmosphere!

“Smoktoberfest” at Smoke

Saturday, September 17th from Noon-11p. Come out for the third annual Smoketoberfest! This year SMOKE BBQ will feature a unique selection of beer, German themed food specials, and much more.

Bring your friends and family out for super fun events like cornhole tournaments, a wing eating competition, and the live music of Soul Patch.  This event has been packed for the last 3 years so get there early and bring your appetite! Enjoy the outside seating area featuring a covered patio or hang out near the outdoor fireplace.

“Denbigh Day” and Slapnation

Bring your dancin’ shoes for the party after the Parade! Slapnation will perform Saturday, September 17 at Denbigh Day! Bring the family out to see the parade beginning at 10am, get some brunswick stew to take home, and enjoy shopping several different vendors. This event originated back in 1960 to mark the end of summer in the historic hamlet of Denbigh and is presented by the Denbigh Lions Club. Cost is free to the public.

Damon’s “Poker Run” for Trevor Claar

Saturday, September 10th, grab the bikes and call your friends.  It’ll be a beautiful day for a Poker Run all to benefit Trevor Claar.  Damon & Company will be hosting the event.  Sign up starts at 10.30am, bikes out at 11.30am.

Cost: $10 per rider, $5 add-on.  Stops are Damon & Co, Schooners, Cactus Pub and then back at Damon’s!  There will be live music, a $5 BBQ Platter, slow race, 50/50 raffle, vendors and door prizes.  100% of proceeds go to Trevor’s medical bills and long-term care.  Trevor was involved in an accident while enjoying the last few days of beachweek, celebrating his high school graduation.  His spirits are high and hopeful. “Byrd’s Restaurant Opening” Newport News

Well there are certainly a lot of locals excited about this place so you know we had to investigate! Byrd’s Restaurant will open its doors Tuesday, August 30 at 7am.

Located in Hidenwood Shopping Center, (2 Hiden Blvd, #27) they offer a full breakfast and lunch menu all day. They also offer a pretty extensive selection of espresso options. The inside is super cute and the items on the menu sound quite appetizing. We’re excited to welcome this new spot to Newport News!

“Yoga in the Galleries” PFAC

What better way to relax and unwind your body and mind than in the serene setting of PFAC.  The Peninsula Fine Arts Center in Newport News will begin ‘Yoga in the Galleries’ every Tuesday beginning September 13th from 6-7pm. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, come out and practice in the peaceful setting of the gallery. Poses are adaptable to the desired difficulty. Please bring a towel, mat, water and a block if desired.
