“Cirque du Soliel” at Coliseum

“A riot of energy” is the idea behind Cirque Du Soleil’s newest live performance. OVO will be at the Hampton Coliseum September 7th-11th.  Based upon the intriguing life of insects and everything in their world, this show will be absolutely enchanting. Experience such segments as “amazing ants, flexible fleas, colorful ecosystem, silky spiders and crazy crickets”.

Cirque Du Soleil is the largest theatrical production in the world. The traveling show was founded in Baie-Saint-Paul in 1984 by two former street performers and has since become an incredibly popular event to attend. Follow the ‘insects’ on an energetic adventure throughout their world, both physically and emotionally.

“EVP World Championships” at POC

Friday August 12th and Saturday, August 13th, come out and watch the 2016 EVP World Championships at Paradise Ocean Club in Hampton. The EVP tour is an industry leader in creating “fan friendly” beach volleyball events and is the largest beach volleyball tour in the United States. With over 18 events and 5,000 athletes competing each summer, this huge event will be exciting to attend (and it is on the beach!).

The cost for spectators is $10 for adults and $5 for children. (This is the regular admission fee to Paradise Ocean Club and includes use of the beach and pool). For participating athletes and one guest of each, admission is free.

Cost per team is $100 per team (four people) for the Hampton Corporate Challenge.

“Waiter’s Race” in Downtown Hampton

Saturday August 13 at 2pm, head to Downtown Hampton for the inaugural Waiters Race, presented by Sysco. Restaurant industry professionals will compete in a series of obstacles while holding a loaded tray of Stella Artois in an attempt to not spill a drop!

There are cash prizes for the Men and Women’s Division, a four-person team Division and the Owners Division will win a traveling trophy (heavyweight championship belt!!) Participants must bring a current pay stub as proof of employment in a restaurant.

Cost to participate is $10.00 in advance and $15.00 the day of event. Free for spectators. All registration fees will be donated to No Kid Hungry. Event starts at 2:00 pm to be followed by the Downtown Hampton Block Party, headlined by Party Fins.

“6th Annual Shag at the Foodbank”

On Thursday, September 29th, come on out and party for a great cause! The 6th Annual ‘Shag at the Foodbank’ fundraiser has been a hit for the past 6 years. Hosted by Kiwanis, this event will feature live music by Bill Deal’s Original Rhondels, an amazing buffet of seafood to include steamed shrimp, crab bites, fried oysters, fried fish, oysters on the half shell, steamed clams, clam chowder, fried scallops, pork BBQ, baked beans, cole slaw, sweet potato fries and of course hushpuppies. The Revolutionary War Fall Reenactment

Attention history lovers! The Fall season is quickly approaching and with that includes historic war reenactments in Newport News. September 24-25 from 11am to 4pm, head out to Endview Plantation for the The Revolutionary War Siege of Yorktown, 1781. You will find reenactors representing members of various forces on both sides to provide a first hand experience of what it was like at the last major battle of the American War of Independence. Encampments will be set up and ready for guests to visit along with reenactments of battles that took place less than four miles from Endview during the American Revolution.

“Maritime Adventure Camps” The Mariners Museum, Newport News

The Mariners Museum is proud to present a week long experience to educate and enlighten children of all ages on exactly how the sea influences daily life. Join in as they explore the rich history and science of the maritime world. Kids will get to listen to music from around the globe, make crafts from distant lands and play games enjoyed by children in other countries. Each day is filled with a new and exciting agenda. Everything from bioluminescence in sea creatures, life aboard a pirate ship, treasure hunts, mermaids, and the Titanic.

Camp is broken up into two age groups.

Mini Mariners: Rising K through 2nd grade, Aug 1-5. Cost is $100 for members and $125 for non-members, 9am-12pm.
Maritime Explorers: Rising 3rd through rising 6th, Aug 8-12. Cost is $175 for members and $200 for non-members, 9am-4pm.
