“Fall Plant Sale” at Poquoson Learning Garden

Attention gardeners and plant-lovers! The Poquoson Learning Garden is hosting a plant sale on Saturday, September 24th from 8a-12p. You will be able to browse and purchase a wide selection of Master Gardener grown annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees.

While you are there, take a self-tour of the “sunny” Learning Garden. Stroll around and check out the several sub-gardens while you select plants grown by the Peninsula’s finest gardeners. This will be a great morning for the entire family – and the weather forecast looks amazing too!

“Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon” Hampton

It’s almost that time of year again! Runners, get ready for The 5th Annual Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon in Hampton. You can take part in the Half Marathon, the Chartway 5K or bring the little ones for the Kids Final Mile.

This exciting 3 day event kicks off on September 30th with a Sports & Fitness Expo at the Convention Center. Saturday, October 1st features the 5K and Kids Final Mile concluding on Sunday, October 2nd with the half marathon and the post-race party.

As you run through beautiful, historic waterfront neighborhoods, you’ll encounter live bands, cheer stops, candy stops and other fun course surprises! Celebrate your finish with a huge Craft Brew Fest featuring live music and delicious corn and crab chowder.

“Oktoberfest” at Tradition Brewing Co.

Saturday, September 24th, venture out to the coolest new spot in Newport News – Tradition Brewing Co.  To celebrate its 1st Annual Oktoberfest, TBC will offer a commemorative mug and 2 pints of beer for $20.  You can also check out their 2 new seasonal brews, “Lederhosen Oktobefest” and “Altsdadt.”  And, while you are there, grab some authentic German food from Deutscher Imbiss! (Brats and Brews…c’mon.)

At TBC, you will find multiple cornhole games, plenty of seating inside and out and you may also see a rather competitive game of Jenga going on somewhere. Celebrate the end of summer with friends, old and new!

“Southern Fried Festival and Car Show” in Ft. Monroe

Bring the family out for the 3rd Annual Southern Fried Festival and Car Show in Hampton! Gather your friends and prepare to be amazed at the stunning showcase of the hot rod culture. Custom builders, manufacturers and regional and national car clubs will be there.

The event takes place in historic Fort Monroe by the water. There will be live music, food for purchase and lots of family fun. Cost is $12 daily and $15 for a weekend pass.

“Virginia Symphony” at Riverwalk

Spend your Thursday evening under the stars with the divine sounds of the Virginia Symphony! September 15th at 7:30, gather your friends and family for an unforgettable night out. The event will take place at Riverwalk Landing in Historic Yorktown.

Pack a picnic, bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the performance by the beach. You’ll experience the sounds of everything from the Star Spangled Banner, to Moon River and even a Suite from ‘Jaws’, The Shark Theme and Out to Sea & The Shark Cage Fugue.

“Pirate Run” at the Mariner’s Museum

Ahoy all runners!  Get your running shoes ready for the 15th Annual 2016 Pirate Run on October 15th at 7am.  This event features a 10K on The Noland Trail, 5K in the Park, and Kids Fun Run.  Registration for a race includes access to the Party In the Park immediately following the race to celebrate The Noland Trail’s 25th Anniversary.  This fun-filled party includes live music, food and refreshments.  

10K participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and a medal.  The 5K registrants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and Kids Fun Run participants will receive a special award medal. 

Prices are $45 in the month of September and $50 October 1-October 13th.  There will be no day-of-race registrations.

“Steal the Pint Night” at Oceans & Ale

Friday, September 16th, come ‘Steal the Pint’ at Oceans & Ale in Williamsburg. Devil’s Backbone will be pouring four of their finest offerings, and you can steal the glass when you’re done! The event begins at 5pm so get there early. Beer and glassware are limited.

“Art After Dark” at PFAC

Have you been to the Peninsula Fine Arts Center lately? If not, you should definitely go check it out. Right now, they are featuring a really cool theme that everyone can appreciate. ‘Game On: Sports in Ancient and Modern Art’ is currently on display at PFAC. It’s so darn cool, they decided to make a night of it to the public for free!

On ThursdaySeptember 22nd, grab your friends and wear your favorite sports gear for a chance to win the ultimate trophy. Enjoy live music by The Charltones, beer provided by Tradition Brewing Company and food by Sliders Food Truck. You’ll be able to take an interactive gallery tour as well as challenge your friends in badminton, cornhole AND beer pong!
