“Fall Festival of Folklife” in Newport News

The 44th Newport News Fall Festival of Folklife will be held on Saturday, October 7th & Sunday, October 8th, each day from 10am to 5pm. This family friendly event will take place in Newport News Park. The festival will feature over 150 exhibitors showcasing traditional crafts, heritage trade demonstrations, entertainment, children’s activities, and food.

An exciting new addition to this year’s festival is the Virginia Beer and Cheer area featuring Virginia beers and ciders. New entertainment includes Latin Ballet of Virginia, Fado Nosso, The Rhythm of Ireland School of Dance, Drunken Weasels Border Morris, and Lady Beatricethe Gypsy Fortune Teller.

Don’t forget about all of the fabulous festival food! Enjoy options from seafood, barbeque, pork rinds, funnel cakes, and lots of other favorites.

“Rock and Rescue” at PBR Hampton

Sunday, May 21st, mark your calendars for Rock & Rescue at PBR, Hampton. This all day event is family-friendly with live music, vendors onsite, and the sweetest adoptable dogs around. Other activities include a pool tournament, nail clinic, LulaRoe fashion show, cornhole tournament, petting zoo, and awesome children’s activities. Don’t forget about the mechanical bull inside!

Come out and have some fun for a great cause. PBR will be open from 12-6pm. Humans and canines welcome. This event is free and open to the public.

“Helpful Paws, Extraordinary Dogs” at Virginia Living Museum

Come out and experience the bonds of companionship and service that are part of the special relationship with working dogs. Meet dogs (and humans) from the Tidewater Chapter of Pets for Vets, whose mission is to unite deserving veterans with specially trained dogs rescued from shelters.

Members of the Newport News K-9 Unit will also be onsite to demonstrate how these highly trained dogs help keep our police officers and communities safe. Merrimac Dog Training Club and Canine Companions for Independence will also demonstrate special training. Till Waggin’ Tutors therapy dogs will be there to show how they help children improve their reading skills. And of course, the wonderful folks from the SPCA will be onsite if you are looking for a pet to adopt!

This event is Saturday, April 8th from 10am-3pm at the Virginia Living Museum.

“Pet Adoption Event” at Tradition Brewing Co.

Sunday, February 19th, mark your calendars for the Pet Adoption Event at Tradition Brewing Co. The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter is excited to return and will even bring a few adoptable dogs out to the brewery. Catch them in the tasting room from 1-4pm. Enjoy craft beer, friends, and fur-babies.

Cubania will be onsite from 12-6pm serving up delicious cuban food. To ensure the shelter pups feel safe, Tradition Brewing Company is requesting that all other dogs remain on the patio or at home.

“Bacchus Wine & Food Festival” at the Virginia Living Museum

“American Reef and Reptile Expo” in Hampton

Saturday, December 17th, get ready for the second American Reef and Reptile Expo of the year! The first Expo was so popular over the summer, they decided to bring it back before the holidays. The Hampton Roads Convention Center will host the event dedicated to aquatic, exotic and reptile enthusiasts.

The show will feature multiple vendors, reptiles and exhibitors all in honor of reef and reptile hobbyists. Admission is always free for Military and retired Vets.

“Animal Adoption Event” at Tradition Brewing

Sunday, November 13th, Tradition Brewing Company is excited to host an animal adoption event! Stop by and meet the wonderful people from the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter. Staff will be on-site sharing everything they do for the animals and our communities. There may be a few fur-babies with them that need good homes. The animal shelter covers all areas including Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson and York County. The event is from 1-5pm.

“Dogs of DoG Street” Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg welcomes back the famous Dogs of DoG Street Event this Fall. Grab the pups and lace up your sneakers! Beginning at 11am on October 15th, the Revolutionary City is officially ‘going to the dogs’. Bring the whole family and join George Washington, Liberty and the beautiful people of the Heritage Humane Society as they lead the way from Palace Green, down Duke of Gloucester Street, and to the Capital.

There will be a Halloween Costume Contest (yes, for the dogs) at 10.30am, and free gourmet dog treats from 8am-noon. Check-in begins at 9.15am.
